French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has branded the claims that Russia poses a threat to Europe \u201ca big scam.\u201d She believes that the real danger is \u201ccarrying out a Cold War against Russia and pushing Russia into China\u2019s arms,\u201d she said in a CBS interview.<\/p>\n

During the interview, CBS host Anderson Cooper challenged Le Pen\u00a0with\u00a0questions\u00a0such as, \u201cYou don\u2019t believe Russia\u2019s a threat for Europe?\u201d while raising the familiar \u201cCrimea invasion\u201d argument against Moscow.<\/p>\n

The right-wing French presidential candidate dismissed the\u00a0\u201cRussian threat\u201d\u00a0claims as a\u00a0\u201cbig scam,\u201d\u00a0saying she doesn\u2019t believe in it\u00a0\u201cat all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll tell you what the danger is for Europe. It\u2019s carrying out a Cold War against Russia and pushing Russia into China\u2019s arms. That\u2019s the threat to Europe,\u201d\u00a0Le Pen emphasized.<\/p>\n

Asked if she regards Russian President Vladimir Putin as\u00a0\u201ca threat,\u201d\u00a0Le Pen was quick to deny the claim.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, I don\u2019t believe it is so. Nothing Vladimir Putin has done would make me reach that conclusion.\u201d<\/p>\n

Le Pen went on to discuss growing globalization, which, according to her,\u00a0\u201chas become an ideology with no constraints,\u201d\u00a0leading to\u00a0\u201cnations forcing themselves back into the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNations with borders we control, with people that we listen to, with real economies, not Wall Street economies, but rather factories and farmers. And this goes against this unregulated globalization, wild, savage globalization,\u201d\u00a0which has been\u00a0\u201ca catastrophe for most,\u201d\u00a0Le Pen said.<\/p>\n

A steady stream of migrants is part of this issue, she added.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrance\u2019s image has undeniably changed. There are a number of neighborhoods where you are no longer living a French life. That\u2019s undeniable.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, this will stop if she becomes president, Le Pen said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrance isn\u2019t burkinis on the beach. France is Brigitte Bardot. That\u2019s France. I\u2019m opposed to wearing headscarves in public places. That\u2019s not France. There\u2019s something I just don\u2019t understand: the people who come to France, why would they want to change France, to live in France the same way they lived back home?\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if she would agree with a motto like\u00a0\u201cMake France great again,\u201d\u00a0mimicking Donald Trump\u2019s\u00a0\u201cMake America great again,\u201d\u00a0Le Pen said:\u00a0\u201cYes, of course. I\u2019ve been saying that for many years. We are a great nation, which has lot to offer to the world, but to offer something to the world France has to remain France.\u201d<\/p>\n

CBS host Cooper seemed to have his doubts about Le Pen\u2019s potential presidency, saying:\u00a0\u201cThe polls say you can\u2019t win.\u201d<\/p>\n

Le Pen quickly fired back by saying:\u00a0\u201cYes. They also said that Brexit wasn\u2019t going to happen, that Donald Trump wasn\u2019t going to be elected, wasn\u2019t even going to be his party\u2019s nominee. Well, they\u2019re saying that less and less now. They are much more cautious.\u201d<\/p>\n

The French presidential elections take place on April 23, with the run-off scheduled for May 7. In the latest polls, centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron is projected to beat Le Pen in the run-off, with 60 percent of the votes in his favor. However, National Front leader Le Pen is predicted to get 27 percent of the vote in the first round, while Macron is forecast to come in second with 24 percent.<\/p>\n
