An Israeli television presenter Assaf Harel used his comedy show\u2019s final broadcast to launch a scathing attack on \u201capartheid\u201d and \u201cplague\u201d conditions in Gaza that he says are being swept under the carpet by the vast majority of the Israeli population.<\/p>\n

The Israeli government has long been the focus of human rights organizations like Amnesty International, for\u00a0\u201cunlawfully\u201d\u00a0killing Palestinian civilians and detaining\u00a0\u201cthousands of Palestinians who opposed Israel\u2019s continuing military occupation, holding hundreds in administrative detention.\u201d<\/p>\n

TV host Harel was bringing down the curtain on ‘Good Night with Asaf Harel’ when he took the opportunity to urge people to \u201cwake up\u201d to the inhumane treatment of people in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

\u201cGaza is on the verge of plague, hours on end without electricity or water,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael controls everything that goes in or out\u2026 Ever since the right-wing took power, more and more voices are warning of apartheid. Are you kidding? Apartheid has been here for ages. Ages. It\u2019s just that we\u2019re on its good side, so it doesn\u2019t really bother us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the obstacle to peace in the region lies with a Palestinian authority that\u00a0\u201ceducates [people] to lionize terrorists and to murder Israelis.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Haaretz, Harel\u2019s show has been fined for ridiculing Netanyahu.<\/p>\n

And in his passionate five-minute assessment of Israeli society on Monday, Harel denounced the government and the Israeli nation for double standards regarding conflict’s resolution.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been abusing the Palestinians on a daily basis for years, denying them their basic rights. In Judea and Samaria we\u2019re taking their lands from them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOnce, we used the Jewish National Fund to raise money to buy the lands. Today? We just pass a law saying we can just take their lands and that\u2019s it.<\/p>\n

\u201cSoldiers shoot at stone-throwers because they\u2019re a real threat, but if in Israel someone throws stones they won\u2019t even be charged.<\/p>\n

\u201cPalestinian journalists are put in administrative detention, without trial, because they wrote something.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor years we\u2019ve been deepening the hatred, the same hatred that we later complain about in peace talks. Israel\u2019s most impressive innovation, more than any high-tech project, is our amazing ability to ignore what is happening mere kilometers away to our neighbors. A whole people, transparent. Like it doesn\u2019t exist,\u201d\u00a0Harel said.<\/p>\n

He added that one day he hoped people Israel would\u00a0\u201cwake up\u201d\u00a0before further conflict breaks out.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had to have the Yom Kippur war to have peace with Egypt…. But in the end, we\u2019ll wake up.\u201d<\/p>\n
