Over the 15 years they\u2019ve worked at the site, at least seven people have been treated or have died from cancer.<\/p>\n<p>In the lawsuit, they charge the US Navy with failing to properly investigate health hazards following reports of unusually high cancer rates at Camp Justice \u2013 the war court complex where legal teams work on the cases of alleged terror detainees,\u00a0according to\u00a0the McClatchy Washington Bureau.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint cites the Navy\u2019s\u00a0\u201cunreasonable delay\u201d\u00a0in assessing known environmental hazards such as mercury and formaldehyde, and its\u00a0\u201carbitrary and capricious determination that\u2026 personnel must live and work in the contaminated areas of Camp Justice before a proper investigation and appropriate remediation are completed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Camp Justice, which houses the lawyers and their aides in trailers, is built upon a former airstrip that was a jet fuel dumping site and is surrounded by older buildings that contain asbestos.<\/p>\n<p>A 2015 assessment found that\u00a0\u201cair samples tested positive for mercury and formaldehyde, and the soil samples tested positive for benzoapyrene \u2013 all carcinogenic substances,\u201d\u00a0according to the filing.<\/p>\n<p>The complaint claims the Navy neglected to test 84 out of 100 units in the Cuzco trailers for formaldehyde.
